WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY

Homeopathy is a natural system of medicine using very diluted doses of substances such as plant, mineral or animal materials.  It uses these potentized doses to stimulate an individual’s vital force to enable healing of the body.  Homeopathy is based on the law of similars, that ‘like cures like’.  

 

A German physician, chemist and linguist by the name of Samuel Hahnemann discovered it in the late 1700’s, while he was translating information on Peruvian Bark for another physician.  Peruvian Bark was used to treat Malaria, and Hahnemann then realized that the symptoms of Peruvian Bark poisoning were strikingly similar to those of Malaria.  Through repeated dilution and succussion (vigorously shaking) the medicinal substance, Hahnemann discovered that this process reduced the adverse effects of the substance while increasing it’s curative powers compared to the crude substance.  His discovery came at a time in his life when he started to become very disillusioned with the standard methods of practicing medicine, which he had been taught.  He discontinued the practice of medicine, and went on to test, or ‘prove’ a great many remedies on himself, proving his theories repeatedly and perfecting his methods.

 

Homeopathy treats the whole person, not just the local affliction.  Our physical, mental and emotional aspects are all equally significant, as they are all a part of us; they are not separate entities.  Disease occurs when the vital force has been thrown off balance by factors such as stress, trauma, injuries etc.  The body innately will try to restore balance on it’s own, however at times it is unable to fully recover, requiring the help of homeopathic remedies.  Homeopathy is an individualized method of treatment.  The way in which a pathology presents itself varies from person to person, therefore several people with the same condition would likely each require a different remedy.
